A principal character from the City of Splendors, a Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign set in Waterdeep. ““It’s all just a lie!” Raven accused, her dark eyes boring through to Daeron sole. “Your whole life… the both of you… nothing but a lie!” “A front,” Daeron corrected her. “A part to play on the stage of public view. No different then the masquerade of every nobleman, lord or merchant trying to appear as something he’s not for his own gain.” She rested her head back upon his chest, as she let the strange revelation sink in. “So, what do you gain from this masquerade?” she asked. “The chance to make a difference for the better,” he replied, gently stroking her hair. “Why tell me?” she shifted position so that she could look into his eyes, her naked form sliding across his as she did. “Because, the Tel Teukiia needs those with daring and good hearts,” he responded, raising his head so his lips meet her’s. “But, I’m just a thief,” she confessed when they broke the kiss. Then a thought hit her and she bolted upright, sitting upon the bed, the covers falling from her, leaving her naked form bathed in the pale moonlight. “Was all of ‘this’ just a way to recruit me?” she demanded, her voice heavy with hurt and rage. “No!” he retorted, pushing himself up to sit in front of her. He reached forward to gather her in his arms, but she sat stiff and unyielding, her body tense like a coiled snake about to strike. “I told you the truth because of ‘this’,” he explained. “Because I didn’t want to play the fool with you. I want you to know me for who I am.” She looked deep into his eyes, and saw nothing hidden there… no secret agenda… no deception… just his sole bared before her. Slowly the tension drained from her and she yielded to his embrace, letting him draw her against his muscular form, and then down into the bed. “I’m surely not the first to share your bed,” she cooed, after she had settled comfortable against him again. “If you confess your ‘sins’ to every woman you bed, half of Waterdeep must know your secret by now.” “Hardly,” he replied, laughing at her mock flattery. “None but Caerden, a few at Blackstaff tower, and now you,” he said in a more serious tone. She lay silently for a long moment; let herself enjoy his embrace, the warmth of his naked skin against hers, and the thought that he was risking his life by revealing the truth to her. “You forced your own family to shun you, just to hide your secret. While I would do almost anything just to find mine,” she said softly, her voice tinged with sadness. “I didn’t force them to shun me,” he replied, his voice tainted with regret. “They have done so since the day I was born. I just feed the image they already had of me.” “And what of Caerden?” she asked, a smile growing on her lips as she fondly remembered the moon elf’s part in their activities earlier that night. “Why does he play the black sheep?” “That is a long story,” he replied…” An enigma, even to herself, Raven woke one morning in her teens in Jester's Court with no memory of how she had gotten there... or who she was! Her only clue to her identity; a tattoo of a winged figure on her back, which, along with her dark eyes and hair, gave her her name. A skilled thief and cunning rogue, she survives by her wits and daring, and is well aware that her exotic beauty and charm can be deadlier then any blade. Always searching for clues to her past, Raven is frequently surprised by the odd bits of knowledge that spring to her mind, but so far, these disjointed revelations have failed to unlock her lost memories or identify, which even powerful spells have been unable to recover.
