Description
Just returned home after a visit to the Greater Manchester Fire Brigade Museum, it's only five minutes from where I live and thats keeping to the sped limit, lol. I saw a notice somewhere on Saturday that the Museum was having an open day, so decided to pay a visit. When I got there though I found out that it was aimed at the children not adults. The main open day I had missed as it was held on the 7th July. Not to be outdone I still went in and took a few pictures. The first time I went to this place was quite a few years ago and on that occassion they had the escape ladder fully extended all 125FT(37m) of it, today is the first time since that visit that I have seen it extended. Not to its full extent today but you get a good sense of the size, I would hazard a guess as to 75% extension today.
This Fire Engine was delivered to the Rochdale Fire Station in March 1957, it spent all its working life here until it was withdrawn from operational service in 1976.
The all steel five section ladder was supplied by Carl Metz of Germany and built onto a Dennis F21 Chassis Powered by a Rolls Royce B.80 8-Cylider petrol engine, developing 150BHP through a 4-speed crash box. A 500 galls/min(2250 Litres/min) centrifugal pump is also fitted.
The vehicle has been completely restored to its 1957 condition by Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum Society.
PLEASE ZOOM for full impact of the turntable ladder.
Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make.
May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are.

If I'd had to be rescued by that ladder I'd have passed out before the carry-down. A shame really as a lot of firemen are very dishy! I challenge you to a fireMEN galore, Jeff! now that would really please the 'ladies'!

My grandfather retired from fire fighting. Fire trucks are of interest to me, especially ladder trucks. Love these shots and the pov you got on them.

It is a beautiful fire engine, love it!, you captured it very well. I was a fireman when I was in the air force and I must say I enjoyed it a lot though it is dangerous, but one feels good when saves someone's life without thinking about our own life.Great capture, Jeff, wonderful collage, bravo !
