Description

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Hitchcock I was sat at my conmputer with the back door open and all at once there was such a cacophony I had to investigate. This is what I saw, hundreds of starlings milling about, there was a line of them along all the roofs that I could see some of them covering the tiles right down to the edge of the roof still others flying around in circles. The sound was mind blowing, not a song but a shrill chatter. Our houses are in a long U sort of shape and the sound just echoed round. This went on for about five minutes or so, then they just dissapeared as fast as they arrived. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make. Be careful what you say to your children, They are the ones that choose your old folks home.

What a marvellous thing to happen! Your pics convey the excitement,Jeff, well done! One of my 'Things to do' is to visit soemwhere where the starlings do that performance before they roost; they used to do it near here but all the new houses put paid to that.

I remember that movie well. You got to kind of relive it huh?? When I was in Chicago I must have seen thousands of seagulls suddenly fill the sky near Lake Michigan I tried to get some pictures and I did but lol mostly I tried to get out of their way.. Thanks for your comment on my anniversary picture you are TOO FUNNY !!!!!

Great capture Jeff, it really shows the commotion going on around you. Glad it wasnt the seagulls that live here, they are like Teradactyls. I would have been under the bed! Excellent work as always.

OH yeah, I remember that movie; scared the heck outta me!! I watched some usually gentle, sweet swallows dive bomb my dog last week, you just never know when or why birds will go bad!!!

There are certain places 'round here where birds congregate. (Well ... I suppose they FLOCK to those places, don't they?) It's amazing to watch them fly in, take over their preferred roost. When they take off, they all go at once, and watching them wheel in the air is a fantastic sight!

The Starlings do this in the centre of town near where I live. I am old enough to remember the film/movie and your shot is a good take on it lol. Where my brother lives near Whallney island, Barrow-in-furness they have had incidents of the gulls swooping and attacking people. Great set of photos Jeff!

I would not enjoy working on that roof after all those birds done their business.excellent capture. they have not came to Dallas in recent years, but previously they came in the 100,000's.they had to take drastic measures downtown to prevent them from roosting in the trees
