Description

Sunday I went to a Native American Festival downtown with my neighbor. What a treat! The dances were amazing and were performed only with voice and drum for music. The crafts and art were gorgeous but expensive. Where I was seated it was hard to get clear shots of the dancers but I will share them anyway. I took this pic for George because this man is Seneca Nation, Bear Clan...as is depicted by his regalia. He is a dancer, drummer and singer and has two sons that do the same and were there performing as well. Bear is one of my totems and Georges as well. It was a great day, I enjoyed every minute! I wasn't going to post tonite because I am so tired from the event but here I am wide awake at 2:15am! Honoring the "Hodenosaunee" at Hanover Square Grammy-winner Joanne Shenandoah and SAMMY Hall of Famer Sandy Bigtree headline the second annual "Honoring the Haudenosaunee" event at Hanover Square. The daylong event honors the six tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy, through music, food, dance, arts and crafts and more. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for Native students pursuing higher education. BEAR (Ohkwari' in the Mohawk language) The bear is the keeper of sleep, dreams, and inner wisdom. He goes into the cave and comes out renewed. There are times in life when we must go within to reassess our lives. If you are in a period of transition you may want to go into hibernation. You may want to sleep more, be less social, and less focused on your goals. This is normal. If you are in this period of life, draw on the strength of bear to know that everything has its season and that a time for action will come once again. For now, rest is in order. Bear is also the healer and herbalist. His curious nature motivates him to learn a great deal about the plants and their medicines. Invoke him for his healing, his powers of introspection, and his wisdom. The spirit of the bear watches over me. Thanks for looking and for previous comments! Will catch up tomorrow!

Very intereseting picture. And I've just finished a Tony Hillerman's book with a character who belongs to the Hopi's bear clan... Thanks for the information too. I'm in a periode of transition myself and I fell a little bit like you describe in your picture; Maybe a good time for inner introspection with the bear totem :-)
