Description
Newcomers to Admiral Draper's staff can't help noticing how, during the planning of operations around the holosets, she starts off by resting her right hand on the handle of her raygun. The closer the plan gets to completion, the more visibly she grips the gun. As an Admiral, of course, she never personally gets into combat, nowadays. As she puts it (rather wistfully), the Admiral who gets to use her raypistol hasn't been doing her job properly.
It can be quite disconcerting to be bawled out by the Admiral while her hand is on her gun. Old hands reassure newcomers that Admiral Draper isn't really in the habit of shooting staff officers who disappoint her. After all, they point out, the safety protocols on Amazon weapons mean that they can't fire lethal rays at female targets. Besides, they say, everyone knows that Astrid Draper's volcanic temper is more than capable of vaporising underlings unassisted. She doesn't need a raygun for that...

Very well done! And "roger" that about an admiral and her pistol. A general's job is to get the troops to the battle in the best possible condition and equipped properly. Then, (the hard part) step back and let them fight it.
