Description

Let's see ... how can I tell you about my day on Saturday without giving you so much information that you're bored to tears? Hmmmmm ... Well, it all started a few years ago when some friends of mine decided to put on a scavenger hunt. But not just ANY scavenger hunt! No, this one involves a bit of "capture the flag," some photography, a lot of creativity, much sneaking around (as many of you will be glad to hear), some "olympic" events, and a barbeque. It's a day-long event, and the people who participate look forward to it all year. As a matter of fact, there are probably a few people who are lying to a few other people already, in preparation for NEXT year's event! This extravaganza of wanton weirdness is known as the Trifecta Venatorius, affectionately called "The Hunt." This year there were 16 participants (four teams of four), along with two Huntmasters, with your favorite Auntie (that's me) in a supporting role. I designed the posters, helped come up with some of the items on the lists, assisted one of the teams (the winning team, actually!) with their scavenger hunt list, and took pictures at the barbeque/olympics. Somewhere in there, while everyone else was running around, I took a nap! The day was a roaring success, everyone had a wonderful time, nobody got seriously hurt, and in general it was a blast. The adults start at 10:00 in the morning, and at 4:00 they meet back at the starting point to check in, at which time an official break is given so people can go to the grocery store, pick up their kids, do whatever they need to do. Then at about 5:30 or 6:00, we start up again with the barbeque and the challenges (aka olympics). Various people participated in bobbing for apples, swallowing raw eggs, drinking Diet Coke with Mentos in their mouth, and running a six-part timed race. I got a bunch of wonderful photographs Saturday evening ... mostly portraits ... so I consider my day to have been a huge success! The "wheelbarrow" was one-sixth of the timed race. I loved this shot of two of the guys participating. The sense of motion really reflects the fun and energy of the day!

Whew, this brought back a lot of childhood memories. We played Wheelbarrow Race, Capture the Flag, and Kick the Can! I hope you included Kick the Can in your Olympics. This is a great action shot!

What a delightful read! Your day was one to make us all envious! The motion you described is very energetically shown This is just great! ............and Marilyn wants that wheelbarrow, huh? Well, I heard that any woman can have the body of a 25 yr old, as long as she buys him a couple of drinks first!

Another good event at these sort of happenings is eating dry crackers without a drink. The fastest man to eat five crackers, the fastest woman to eat three crackers. If you are not sure about the crackers at all do a google on 'Cream Crackers' I eat them for supper sometimes with cheese and silver skin onions. yum yum. Excellent capture Tara sounds like a fun day, I used to go on treasure hunts quite often, the best ever was an all nighter, it started at 21:00hrs and finished at 06:00hrs the next day, and I won. What do you mean somewhere in there you had a nap? roflmao.#;0) Superb work, love the motion blur. Bravo!!!!!

Yes, well...I was in one of these races in my early 20s. The one holding my legs was terribly excited and meaning to win. My arms got wobbly and about half way down the course, I flopped face first. Before I could gain my arms again, I plowed up a furrow of ground. Needless to say we didn't win and I spent 30 minutes digging the dirt out of my nostrils! A fun shot here and good action.

Fine motion shot as a prelude to the Olympic Games, Tara! Anything for fun and frolic, I always say. It looks like good therapy for the back! Can also build up the arms and shoulders in this playful exercise. Because of time restrictions, I perused your narrative in a nanosecond.
