Description

After a heavy afternoon shower these Petunia's didn't appear to appreciate the water clinging to their petals! The reflective drops are very heavy and the plants hung low to the ground. Every so often I like to convert my images to B&W just to see how that treatment would look. This photo surprised me as it reminded me of a negative, the water appearing lighter against the black petals...but still like wet velvet. After looking at them both I thought viewing the comparison was just as much fun as seeing the original. Have a wonderful Thursday evening. Jodie

Usually B&W (gray scale, actually, I guess) works well -- but I can't believe how much is lost in this case. The subtle shades that seem so rich in color become an odd low contrast in the B&W. Thanks for sharing these.

Oh, beautiful! The colour is gorgeous and they appear to be made of wet vinyl! (Goth petunias?)

Given how intelligent your work is, it's wonderful to see you post comparisons. And given how heartful your work is, it's wonderful to hear you reflect on them. Full-size, the color version is quite beautiful & even restful. It has an introspective feeling & takes me inside it. You've caught the water almost as 'milk'. And the b&w does indeed feel like a negative (a word from the analog world!), and has a life of its own. It would lend itself to other treatments too (Warhol comes to mind...) This is lovely, and the original is quite deep and rich. It's such a pleasure to stop by your gallery. I never never have anything but a wonderful opening, and I always walk away touched by your deep and always-feeling eye and, of course, heart...

Looks very nice. What about a little more contrast to the b/w?
