Description

This monument was directly across from where we were sitting. It was very hard to get a clear image of the right side because the storm clouds were moving in and every few seconds blocked the sun. I did the top separately for better viewing. Thanks for looking and for previous comments! Please zoom! In the early 1900s, the Soldiers and Sailors' monument was constructed on the square to honor Syracuse and Onondaga County Civil War veterans. The monument was dedicated in 1910. In 1925 the Erie Canal was filled in and Clinton Square became a major transportation route. Since then, Clinton Square has had several redesigns. In the fall of 2001, the Soldiers and Sailors' Monument was renovated and rededicated.

Great shots! We have parts of a canal that they tried to dig from Lake St. Clair to Lake Michigan, but gave up.
