Description

On Friday I attended the 50th birthday celebration of a very good friend of mine. I went early to help, and ended up wandering around taking pictures, which surprised no one! Michael has a beautiful home, circa 1940, full of lovely things. I'm going to have to go back during the day when the light is better, and take more photographs. :) This metal lantern hangs from the eves of the back deck ... a charming spot to sit and enjoy Michael's lovely back yard. I'm hoping that this turned out looking like an old, grainy image from eighty or a hundred years ago ... something an intrepid explorer would have shot in Japan, perhaps, to bring back and show the folks at home. .......... Check this out - you won't believe it! Jeff took a picture of a lantern in his back yard and posted it today, in answer to this shot.

Ah so, you like humble lantern from Nihon? One if by land, two if by sea.... Coulda fooled me, I thought it was some kind of exotic bird cage. Excellent POV and Far East ambiance in this shot, Tara.

After seeing this one I had to post mine just for you. Excellent grainy capture, the ageing is perfect, I can just imagine an intrepid explorer seting up his old wooden tripod for his camera, getting under his cover and exposing the plate. The result a print just like yours. It's like magic what we can achieve in this modern world of photography. I wish I could go back in time just to show the pioneers of photography where we are at today. Superb work Tara, I think you achieved the look you were after. Bravo!!!!!
