Description
The Fair is in town, the Humboldt County Fair, that is. I went Friday to check out a few things (more about that later!!) and of course took my camera. The gates had just opened, there weren't too many people there yet, so this ferris wheel was just empty, going round all by itself. See the sign in the middle? There are dozens of these all over; each has the name of a town in the county. This says "Hoopa", which is actually a corruption of the real spelling, "Hupa", one of the first Native American tribes** in this area. The light wasn't great; I want to go back at night for those super shots you can get, all the action, lights, people, kids. Stay tuned.
Oh, the "later", well, I entered four of my fotos and TWO of them won first and second places!!! That's the other reason I want to go back, to get shots of them hanging on display with those blue and red ribbons!!

Great capture, not often you get to see these wheels without a single person on! (haha! just a thought, are you sure you didn't crop the only person off the bottom ? lol) Congrats! on the FIRST and SECOND places for your Photos!

So great looking a capture, Marilyn. This is the first Ferris Wheel that I have ever seen with alternating gondolas...people facing in opposite directions...maybe I need to get to the fairs more often...lol Congrats on your photos taking 1st and 2nd places. You deserve it!

Exciting shot from this pov, Marilyn. I love the county fairs. The state fair is a big draw here but when the county fair opens in Sacramento, I try to be the first in line... The mood here is one of high spirit. I must confess, I have never seen Hupa spelled Hoopa but it doesn't surprise me at all.

Well you will have to photo the rosettes for us, first and second place, hoorah! hoorah! hoorah! Three cheers for Marilyn. Can't wait to see your nightime shots of this place with all the coloured lights. First I have seen like this as well with the chairs like that. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

Great POV in this shot of the ferris wheel, going round and round, and when it stops, nobody knows. Lots of geometry displayed here. I wonder how many scary movies I've seen where the power fails on a ferris wheel and people are stuck, terror stricken, especially the ones up on top.

could you not have upped the iso a bit or used night mode on the camera marilyn ?..saying that i like the grain produced in this shot .it adds a great feel to it .excellent :o) mick
