Description

MrsRatbag's posting of "Old Ironsides" yesterday jolted me into the realization of still another folder of fantastic fotos I've neglected since I began this photographic odyssey on Renderosity. The shots above were captured back on 5/13/06 at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California. The 80-acre site features 200 steam, diesel and electric locomotives, as well as passenger and freight cars, streetcars, and other railway equipment. Rail transportation in the West from the late 1870s through the 1960s is depicted. Okay, that's what the tour book says, but may I also add that besides a museum, the site is also a graveyard and a junkyard, with tons of rusted equipment lying about, loose rocks and tracks to scramble and trip over, and big red ants to elude. Motto of the day there is, "watch your step!" But they do have a lovely small garden outside one of the structures. Most of the stuff is outside, but several well maintained old streetcars are stored inside of a huge car barn. The area is a virtual desert, so don't go there in the summer, or you'll be baked to a crisp. Just thought I'd throw that in for emphasis. Thankx for coming by, and have a nonstressful Tuesday.

Nice collection of rusted textures! I can well imagine how hot it would be with all that metal around. Great presentation!

Gotta love those old steam engines! You should go to Silverton Colorado and ride that one, an awesome experience. Nice shots, Harry.

I especially note the sander on this one with the pipe chute to the rear driver. Must have been for backing uphill.
