Hello Renderosity Community!
Â
I call myself Billcody, but my real name is Wolfgang. I am living in Germany, in Berlin, and I was born here in 1950. We are a tribe of two here: My older brother Sig, you know him under his nick "junge1" and I am "junge2" in the row....
Â
My real profession is Geologist; I am specialized in contaminated soils, pollution, stuff like this, especially in old industrial areals. Berlin has a lot of these.... My hobbies are music, photography, railroading and history and here especially the old industrial history of Berlin, the old manufactories with their brickstone architecture of our ancestors. I like to stroll through the urban jungle to search old historical buildings. My cardiologist is happy.......
I' m a photographer since 2006, when my beloved wife Harriet bought me my small Nikon 8700 bridge camera. This opened a brand new world. Yes, I photographed before for many years but the results were .....hmmm... not good.... I was not an aficionado, this began with the digital area. I use the Nik8700 till today......
Am I an Artist? I' m not sure, YOU decide with your votings and comments. I call myself a "Hobby Photographer" - and I like it! I try to do things well.

There is a section of this wall in my home town of Simi Valley where Ronald Reagans presidential library is.. I remember standing there and seeing it, and you can't help but be moved by the history it represents... Great shot thanks for sharing!!

Truer words may have never been spoken! Excellent memorial to a dark day in humanity's history. I wish I could say things like these are rare events. Maybe someday they will be?

Thank you for all this information. I would never be mistaken for one who has great knowledge of history and your postings are helping to change that. My husband is a history buff and I have encouraged him to check out your gallery

Interesting history - I remember all the excitment when the wall was being torn down and did not really ask myself what had happened to it afterwards. Definetly something to not forget yet history has a habbit of repeating.

Great capture

I was stationed in the Fulda Gap with a Third Armoured Division tank crew. I remember on Christmas Eve in Frankfurt when my German friends waited to phone their loved ones in the east. We never thought Germany would ever be reunited, nor the wall come down. But almost suddenly, one by one, the communist governments began to fall. Thank God for President Reagan, for the church, and for the priests that prayed, believed, took a stand for what was right and led their people to freedom. (I cite Charles Colson's book, "The Body" that details stories the press never printed.)

My daughter Emma took Modern History as a subject in her A levels, she was enthralled by the Second World War, and a lot of her studies centered on Hitler and Berlin. She visited Berlin quite a few times during her studies, it was after the Wall had been torn down though. She did however get a couple of photo's of a small section of it. She was very impressed with your city Wolfgang, and has often said she would like to return for a holiday rather than a fact finder visit. Each time she was there it was only for a couple of days. A great shot of this piece of history, another piece that should never be forgotten, a City divided, families divided, Berliners killing Berliners. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

47 years!! I was in the Lower Sixth form and we were all truly shocked at what happened. Thankyou for this reminder of this appalling event.

Yes, I've seen Berlin before the wall, with the wall and after the wall. A division of politics, a division of families, a division of cultures, a division of people. Sadly, even though the wall has come down...there still remains a division between east and west Berliners.

I cannot imagine living through such a tragic period, thank you for reminding us to think about these events, we forget as our daily lives continue.
