Description

Last Saturday I took my two grandsons on a nature walk in the Chickasaw National Recreational Area. We went down a path called the buffalo trail; it circles an area where they keep a small herd of buffalo. The boys picked up rocks, leaves, twigs and various things that interested them to bring home as souvenirs. Later to be made into a collage along with a picture we took of them on the walk to remember the day and show of there treasures. We came up on a pond where a few of the buffalo were trying to stay cool in the shad of the trees. This guy was not far from the fence and the boys got a kick out of seeing there first buffalo up close. Thanks for viewing and for any comments you care to leave.

What an intimidating animal. I would love to see it in the wild and catch the spirit of freedom they represented in the States.

North of NW Montana (Glacier), North of the Canadian Internationational Peace Park at Waterton they have an area know as the Buffalo Paddock with an asphalt road of a few miles that winds around an open area with a large buffalo herd. While I was there they were a few hundred yards off the road (you're required to stay in your car) so I sat there in my '70 Bronco watching them with binoculars and decided to play a Pink Floyd album. Lo and behold they started moving towards me until they were grazing all around my car little more than a few feet away. I got some great pictures. They "seemed" quite docile. Truly a great symbol of the American West.
