Hello! My name is Jodie. I live in Minnesota where the temps can fluxuate by 20 degrees in one day. Most of my photos have been taken very close to my home, a 10 acre hobby farm., where I raise Alpacas and chickens. I am a band director, a musician/singer and a photographer/adviser on the yearbook committee. My camera of choice is a Nikon.Ā I have a D90 and a D70. I also have a SB800 flash and favorite lens is Nikon 18-200mm AF-S, with VR. Revisiting the visual arts is something I should have done years ago.Ā If I see something remarkable, I just try to capture it.Ā Nobody else will ever seeĀ it quite that way again so I hope you try that, too.Ā This is just like expensive therapy for us. Ā Thank you for visiting and may you have a peaceful day!Ā

Remarkable back lit image. It goes to show that when the sneak factor is high, the results are often excellent as this one was.

Stellar clarity, contrast and composition in this silhouette capture of everything in this magnificent photo, Jodie! You did a marvelous job considering the sneak factor. And yes, the odd looking instrument is somewhat large for your enterprising son. Wouldn't he have been satisfied with a flute, piccolo or oboe? But then again, as with children's clothes, he should grow into it.

marvelous image... gotta love the drum in the background!

This is precious!! What a sweet little boy he is, your baby, and how concentrated on the task. A fantastic shot in all aspects!!The tuba is a beauty too.

I love it! I played clarinet but it was a difficult choice between that and the tuba. :-) He seems to be handling it well. Not an easy instrument to carry or study. Fabulous look at this young musician.

In a sense comical but then also a brave act for a big heart! The mood would have been spoiled by a flash, excellent image.

these comments are great, I just want to write "ditto" though maybe I can add something: I played a tuba once, and besides nearly losing consciousness (and scaring the hell out of everyone in the bandroom), I decided then and there that I would rather be a highway sign than play that beast again. Matthew looks totally at home with it, meeting it with a musician's grace & concentration; and your lighting is just gorgeous. That restful indoor-shade that's all reflection & concentration...haven't we seen those curtains before? A shot of you staring out at winter, early in your gallery? Well wherever they come from, they're beautifully captured, and their darkish red tones are mirrored in the shadows, the window-frame and in the tuba itself, a real Jodie picture. Beautiful; and as a musician I say, you got the 'musician's moment'. All power to him! (He's gonna need it!)

Well it looks like he is enjoying himself and that is all that matters Fantastic image sweetie Hugs Susan~

LOL at your sneak factor and him picking the tuba. I wasn't all that thrilled when Meg picked the cello in Elementary school, ( it meant I would have to pick her up everyday from school because she was too little to carry that big thing all the way home. Hmmm.... now that I think of it, that's probably why she picked it, lol. ) Anyway, adorable shot, Jodie. I like the compo, with the window in the background and his look of concentration. He's such a cutie. -M ;^)

OMG how sweeeeet!!!! * this made me laugh at the whole "he has to play while sitting on a book or he cannot reach the mouthpiece". lol!!!! so funny and cutE! he looks too darling with that huge instrument !!! so beautifully captured loved reading your write up here haha i am glad nellie took up the not so huge flute( she is a big baby about having to carry things) and Annie the clarinette ( rolls eyes just got her a new used one -cause the last one got dropped in the river lol) now chrissy wants to play sax its going to get louder oh nooo lol but not as loud as THAT one there!!!! love this shot thanks for the smile here!!!

This is a beautiful capture, I really like the light and it's a great composition :)

Very delicate composition in golden colors. Perhaps a slight additional flash would have opened the black areas, but I know this is uneasy to do in this kind of environment and also perhaps your little boy would not have enjoyed this brutal light. 5*****!

WOW! That little guy is impressing me. He is indeed ambitious. Way to go. :)))

You turned a personal picture into a work of art. The silhouette is wonderful. The touch of lace, brings it home. The drum lets think there is more going on than the tuba.
