Description

There are stone lanterns everywhere in the Japanese Garden at the Arboretum. I found one that has a hole in the base ... just perfect for framing a shot! Allison and I saw it at the same time and both made a bee-line for it, eager to stick our cameras in front of that hole! I find it so fascinating, how as photographers we see things at different distances. I'm much more likely to show you PART of something than I am to show the whole thing. Others see landscapes, skies, buildings, or a one-inch square of brick. Do you tend to see things at a certain distance? I have to constantly remind myself to pull back and look at the bigger picture, as it were. I was telling a fellow artist about the shots I got at the Arboretum, and he just shook his head and said, "You could have taken those anywhere - didn't you take ANY shots of the whole garden?" Of course I did, but they don't grab me the way these smaller vignettes do. But I promise ... I'll show you a shot of the whole garden before I'm through with this series! :)

you like me I see the whole thing but who looks at the details? That you and me look at the small details that others miss so we show them what they miss when they look at the whole. Tell people like your friend then they think you are wise.

Oh, I love this! I never thought of that, it's great framing....yup, we all see things differently, or else this site would be very, very boring!

I seem to be a macro freak. That tends to force me into taking parts of things. I am trying to develop a sense for longer and wider view. Love this inviting shot you have here.

Superb POV and yes we are all looking for that 'Photographers Shot' if you know what I mean, something from a different angle or perspective. I enjoy a slice of everything.

I think Alan hit it on the head for me also, I like a slice of everything. I like to get up close and personal but I also like to look the whole thing over. From a panoramic to a pin head, thats my brief, in Photography and Radio, I like to cover the whole spectrum. I also have the same view, in what I view. When Alan and I go out for the day, we both see the same things and yet we both see them differently. We can be stood side by side pointing in the same direction and finish up with two very different images. I really like the way this is framed, like brackets (); then again I may have backed off a touch to make a circle O as the frame, but that would mean less of the actual scene. Great series so far Tara, I am enjoying my walk through the Arboretum. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

You didn't take shots of the entire garden? How could you? You have violated the holy prime directive of picture taking, young lady! Tsk, tsk, tsk! Actually, this pic looks like it was snapped through the second level porthole of a ship. Anyway, fine clarity, composition and light and dark contrast in this shot, along with the pea soup water. Do koi really exist in that environment?
