Description
I submitted this image for a contest at DeviantArt (my first image there), contest run by a woman in celebration of her upcoming 7th year as a breast cancer survivor. I jumped at the opportunity to make my own contribution in raising awareness to breast cancer and as my own personal celebration gesture. You see, I was diagnosed myself January this year and I didn't make it public as I didn't want anyonne to think of me as possibly dying as is often the case or used to be when we talk about cancer. I needed all positive thoughts for my first surgery :) I'm ok now. I caught it at an earlier stage, before it might spread and we could even call it cancer. At least as far as the doctors are concerned. It was another story for me lol I am lucky and very grateful and it became important to me that I would be the bearer of good news, better news, after both surgeries and treatments were behind me. Thanks to advancement in medicine and I have to say, to women who came before me, I am part of the 70% of women who now make it through and survive and in my case, intact with only two relatively small scars to show for it, now that the effects of radiotherapy have mostly faded. My new slogan now is "get a mammo" lol
Thank you for you constant support and as you can see, it did slow me down in the last 7 months and I may not have commented as much as I used to and may never again, although I make every effort to comment as much as I can. And now that my energy is getting back in the past week or so, I'm also catching up for lost time and taking care of things and going out more in real life. I'm feeling free :)

I'm glad you've been able to make it through relatively unharmed. My father died of cancer some years ago, even now they some new techniques that might have helped if he was still alive to try them...

If I keyboard messy it's cause I'm in bed and my friend Ginger is tickling me. They say laughter is the healthiest thing for sick kids. For anyone, actually. There's something that happens chemically in your body when you laugh and it's really good for you. I read your comment from my update message today and I was deeply moved. I mean, for me, I'm no one special. I just happened to survive where some do not; it's not a big deal, especially here where no one really knows me except for a few cyber words typed on the ethernet. Yet people reacted so strongly. It kind of blows me away to think that I mattered to so many who have no idea who I am. I was lucky. I had good doctors who reacted quickly at the first sign of major trouble. If they had reacted only moments too late I would not be writing this message. I would be a grave by now. I'm so hopped up on antibiotics I think I could give blood and inoculate the world. giggle I'm glad you are well and fully recovered. I lost a very dear mom-figure to breast cancer several years ago. It hurt. But it's good to know people survive, that there is hope for cancer patients. I wish you well and I hope your life turns out wonderful and healthy from here on out and that you always have the support of your friends and family, because in the end, that's all that matters. In my Christian faith, we believe that our character molded in love is the only thing we can take with us into heaven. Our Phd's, our accomplishments, our fame, our money, our faulty flesh, our corrupted nature, is all left behind. Love becomes who we are, it becomes us, and that is how, in heaven, we will be recognized by those we loved, and who loved us. So, dear Louly, if I can wish you anything, I wish you love. :) Always, Nikita
