Description

This is just a small part of a wind chime in my yard--there are 3 more pieces, all of which are also shells. I showed it to Tara, who knew right away what it was called. She knows some very interesting things, but said it wasn't her fault that they were extinct, just in case you were wondering. Here's a link for more info than you probably ever wanted!! **click here

Really! I wasn't there. But I do like ammonites. :) This one is quite colorful! Perhaps a distant relative ...

Weren't the Ammonites just down the road from the Moabites? In scale at least as interesting as ornamental iron and much more colorful. The stones cry out!

Very interesting info contained in the link. At least their extinction wasn't caused by humans. Great capture of another wonderful piece in your collection of yard ornaments.

I think awesome is just about right for this Marilyn, I wouldn't have connected it with a fosil although I knew about the Ammonite as one. The colours are fantastic, its a pity we don't have sounds of the chimes to go with the image. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

Okay, let's dig a little deeper: according to the bible, Ammon was a son of Lot; also an ancient kingdom east of the Dead Sea. Logically, an Ammonite may have been an inhabitant of said kingdom. Otherwise, it is any of the flat, usually coiled fossil shells of an extinct order of cephalopod mollusks dominant in the Mesozoic era. That said, the backlighting in this marvelous shot really emphasizes the vivid colors and reflections of this beautiful and exquisite wind chime piece, Marilyn!
