Description

We've got feeders up for the hummingbirds and lately the bees have decided to be lazy and instead of going to the flowers for their nectar, they've decided to use the hummingbird food that we put out for the birds! Lazy! Cheatin! Bees! Other than cropping and enhancing with Corel, no work was done to the image. For those of you who noticed that I did not respond immediately to your sitemails or postings yesterday, I actually had to work! And today will be no different except I might be home earlier to respond to all. BTW Happy Friday!!!!

My mom loved to see the hummingbirds and used to put feeders out. We have a fairly large bird called a Pileated Woodpecker who loved the nector. I often would look out the kitchen window and see this rather huge (compared to the tiny hummingbirds) straddled upside on the feeder sucking up the nector. I always thought it hilarious. It would irritate mom since the bird could empty the contents in no time and her hummingbirds would lose out. Never got a photo of the thief (as she called it) but often wished I had.

I guess they don't know it's for hummingbirds, they probably think you put it there for them! Great shot...I always get ants in mine!

HaHaHa!! A funny capture! I might be a little irate too, except that bees aren't doing so well right now. They seem to have something going on that's causing what they have named Hive Collapse Disorder. Except that the deaths don't occur in the hive, the bees just never come home. They think it might be some kind of nuerological disruption due to chemicals, or a virus, or a fungus, or .. the list goes on. I don't think they have found what causes it yet. Einstein, I think it was, was supposed to have said that if bees all die out, human kind will too in something like 3 or 4 years. Nothing left to pollinate the crops .. so what are we to eat? Oh .. if you use sugar water, it works just as well and doesn't have the carcinogens red dye contains.

But where would be 'bee' without them. Be thankful the wasps haven't found it yet. Gosh, I didn't know that (what three grrr wrote), but I have noticed there hasn't been so many around lately.
