Description

I listen to the sound, the endless construction Inside the termite mound Killing Joke 1990 __________________________ I finally managed to migrate my stuff to my nifty new 64 bit quadcore 8 Gig Ram machine! I wanted to find out how much I can cramp into a scene until that well-known "out of memory" sign pops up. All I can say is - I still don't know. And I have doubts I will ever find out. Somewehere between 5 and 6 Gig RAM use the system just starts getting sluggish, then very sluggish and finally semi-frozen. The last third of the scene setup took two thirds of the time. Anyway, making this was great fun! I really enjoyed this luxury: no partial renders, no deletion of invisible model parts - no tricks with alpha planes, no setting up all anew with low poly models or reducing texture maps - why bother :D _______________________________ Watching full size yields more detail. Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, that's a busy scene!! I think I never saw so many Poser characters and props in one scene at the same time. And, on top of everything, all very well orchestrated. Really fine work. The amount of details is overwhelming. I especially like the priest, one hand holding the bible and the other ambiguously posed - yielding to temptation or giving a blessing? Great! I think I stared at this image for more than 5 minutes, always finding new stuff! Excellent job! Regarding the sluggishness, I feel the same. When Vue is completely packed with billions of polygons or GB of textures, even with free resources above 70%, it begins to get sluggish. I normally put the 4 "draw" sliders in "3D view display quality" to the far left, I change viewports to wireframe, I put objects I don't need in hidden layers, I reduce OpenGL features (preview flares, show textures, etc), and things become more tolerable.

Now thats a western scene to die for, so many interesting characters doing all manner of things with the props too. Excellent, and wow on being able to add them all. Congratulations. Jan

If anyone wondered: that magazine in the dirt is an 1860s issue of the then popular Harper's Weekly magazine. It has media pro General Custer on its cover.

Excellent work and a wonderfully dense scene! Congrats on going 64-bit/quadcore/8 gigs. You'll never go back! However, you will get even better performance if you do reduce the texture maps where full resolution isn't necessary (like on figures in the background), and use Vue's layers to only show your current work layer. Keep the dense renders coming!

Wow ! I wish I could pack so many characters in a same picture ! I'm watching Deadwood season 2 DVDs actually so I feel "at home" with your scene !

Speaking as one who laughs in the face of the problems you've now surrmounted - usually by running in the opposite direction toward the non-realistic end of the spectrum - what a pleasure it must be to populate a scene in this way. Speaking of which - what a great scene you've conjured up. The presence of the two women warriors in the street and the resulting ensemble of gestures and expressions is inspired.

Hau kola Perhaps you should have included a brass band, just too much empty space for properly testing your new toy. I Think maybe board walkways and benches for the townsfolk to more comfortably observe those nekid redskin amazons from. This pic is an amazing example of the technological/artistic overkill one can achieve with a cutting edge machinethat makes me evious as hell. Other than that I would really like more hair texture on the ass of that appaloosa. Just kidding, I like it!.
