Description

Right, so having 'responded' to Rich's other forest image with yesterday's post of him taking that shot I'm going to crack on and start with the pics from my French adventure. They're in no particular order, and will pretty much come as I edit them. Here you see what must be one of the most photographed sites in provincial France, the Pont du Gard aqueduct, built by the Romans around the first century A.D. For more information (Wiki entry) go here. It was a really warm day when I was there, and got a nice little workout walking several miles round it exploring different vantage points. Having climbed high to the 'panoramic viewpoint' and set up to take bracketed exposures I only managed to fire off a handful of shots in the half-hour I was sitting there patiently waiting for the tourist snappers to take their memento and clear out the way(!)... then I decided to pack up and head down the path a little for a more undisturbed view with the addition of a few rocks for foreground subject - the view you see here. It's much the same as the 'typical' tourist shot you'd see as it's from a similar vantage point but truth be told, much as I scouted around, it's probably the best pov from high up. Probably not strictly necessary on this shot but I used HDR since I had the bracketed exposures anyway and it brought out the vibrancy of the colours a bit (plus I was keen to do whatever I could to make my effort a bit different somehow to those of the thousands of other visitors!) If I might be so bold the resulting photo is proof I think that the technique can be used and still look pretty 'natural'.. I, like many of you it would seem, have swiftly gone off the 'effect' of HDR, and generally now just use it to help enhance/achieve a properly exposed photo ;) Shot with the crappy kit lens as I needed the wider angle.. can't wait to upgrade sometime soon =| Have a great day! Adam

There is exceedingly great depth in this and the clouds seem to move slowly in the shot. I do like the HDR used in a more natural way. It does produce some novel effects that I enjoy, but using in this manner is really what I was hoping to someday learn to do. Excellent pov with those rocks, btw. Good choice!
