My name is Tony Shaw and I have been working for a UK Bank since I left school in 1983. I have spent from 1990 working in their IT department as a software developer. With the threat of redundancy hanging over me next year, and having written a web-site for my Dad, I decided to train myself up in web and graphic design and as a result found Renderosity.
The graphic tools I'm using in my spare time are Adobe Photoshop, Bryce, Apophysis, Terragen and Vue ... I don't have any particular favourite as they all have their good and bad points.
I have not posted some of my very early works as they are quite basic and would not look out of place in comics, however I hope you will take time to browse through my gallery so far and any comments, whether good or bad will be greatly received as they will keep me motivated and hopefully improve my designs.
Happy rendering.

marvelous texturing work on this beauty! The bird is wonderfully done as well, I can see the frantic work of it's wings as it tries to stop and go back away from the attacking monster!!

Very creative 2D work!

Great image and technique! Love the snapping bird house appealing to my humor while happy to hear the bird escaped. Your gallery is excellent. If you give Vue lessons (written tutorials), I'm your student! Fantastic!

This appeals to me Tony. Not sure I would actually want one in my garden but I think 'The Count' may have a few similar contraptions (maybe with human bones?) knocking about the Castle Wards. I like the thiught processes that you have obviously gone through in delivering this one! Excellent work and style. (I'm sorry to be late in catching up!) Dave

That poor, itty birdie! tsk tsk!...grin Now Tony, be kind to our little feathered friends....next time, you could have the bird attacking the skeleton, maybe....hehehehe! Seriously, the texturing in this is extremely well done, though the image itself is a bit on the, er, strange side! wry grin Such an imagination you have! Really good work on the texture, though!

Excellent surreal composition, Tony!!!

The story is very well portrayed, but equally impressive is the actual painting itself. Your background mirrors the woody nature of the box, and has a life, grain & texture all its own. (And it makes the work more intimate because it's enclosed by this rich 'wall' behind it.) The bird's well captured in motion, but it also has a soft painterly feel to it which makes it feel both soft and reflective (hard to accomplish with an animal in peril). The dragon is rendered as an intimate object against a background, it is menacing but has a quiet beauty, almost like an artifact; and I might say your artistry sweeps the story into its arms, and the work stands as visual complexity & beauty all by itself. I picked this image at random just to jump into your gallery, and I like what I see very much.

I think I'm gonna have to step up to the plate soon and turn out a few surreal pieces.... I have seen quite a few Vue Artists turning out lovely surreal work and I guess I have been so busy with the web sites I feel I am getting left behind here... Once again: Marvellous Work Tony! Bravo!
