Description
When the eye of the storm pass over you like it do to me. the wind started from the northeast and got strong then. As the eye pass the winds stops and the rain and all is calm. The cloud cover was over us the whole time so that means the eye way falling apart at the time. But as the eye passes the wind starts to come from the south.
now the came was all laying down in one way as the eye passes but I did not go and take any photos for I did not know how long the eye would be over us. I could have been on the outer edge and it be calm for a minture or two. But it was calm for about 20 mintures. I just wanted to be save for the winds picks up real fast and i watch the can get picked up and some was upright again. but you see it ever which way.
I guess i drive to wghere the cane is one way and get some shots.
Yes the cane can be saves. They will lose some of the cane for the trucks and stuff to get the cane will have to drive over some and that will be lose. The sugar contents may be lower too. I not sure. Some one told me yes it be lower.

many years ago they could not get the cane like this but now they can. One machine they use cost $500,000 and you wonder why sugar is high! I did post one in the past year that had tracks and not wheels. Tracks like a tank have. It will not get stuck in the mud.

oh the winds lasted for hours on end oh and the program to make the image smaller did not keep the photo imformation on it . here it is iso 200; exposure time 1/160 ; f-stop6.3 i did some post work too on contrast

Great shot, Jock! It's really something, to go through the eye of the hurricane. When I was a kid, I went through quite a few of them-- the most notable were Hazel and Audrey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Hazel Now I can't imagine how it worried my parents each time, how the crops were ruined and the boats. But the eye. It was so calm and hard to imagine it wasn't over while we waited. This brings back the craziness and shows well how things get tossed around and wrecked.

Gustav really raised cain with the cane, Jock! I know it was like walking on eggs while you were capturing all this, not knowing when the eye would pass over followed by wind and rain.

Lots of memories with this one. Not sure how the wind will affect the growth of the sugarcane but they are pretty strong.

Looks just like my back yard after all the storms we have been having....I'm glad you are okay...and pray Ike stays away from you....I'm on east coast of Florida and right now looks as tho Ike will stay away from me....

you were fortunate to weather the storm.even the brick house is no match for a hurricane. being in tornado alley my whole life, I am use to seeing damage. I probably would have went out during the eye, at least for one shot but I am crazy

Wow! I've only been through one hurricane where I live (Washington state) when we had the Columbus Day Storm way back when and I watched the BIG apple tree in our front yard fall over. I am so glad you are safe and sound and I hope your family is as well. Great picture and commentary!
