Description

I found this growing at my local nature reserve. I believe in some european countries discovering wild Oyster mushrooms would be a guarded secret. They are highly prized fungi by the top chefs. Most U.K. people kick over any wild fungi they find growing, classifing everything that does not come in a plastic box wrapped in clingfilm, as poisonous! I think we could learn a lot from our continental friends, who treasure natures harvest of fungi with village festivals!

Where my son lives, mushroomers are valued greatly and every year at harvest time, people are off to their secret spots to gather a variety of succulent shrooms. They sell them to the local grocers and restaurants for a fair price. These are beautiful growing naturally on that stump. The pov is excellent.

What an absolutely tremendous photo. I fully expect a little imp to appear from behind the tree! It really deserves more coverage Kevin. I quite agree with your comments. Rural Shropshire was a haven for fungi gatherers but we always had someone with us who was knowledgeable. Puffball was a great favourite and one would feed many of us.
