Description
It may seem like 'retrospective' week in my gallery, but events have brought many things to mind. I've wanted to do something for Gun for a long time, but haven't regained enough skills to do something worthy. So after several tries, I took an old painting and transformed it in PS. It'll never match what she does, mind you, but it's the love behind it that matters.
Anyone who knows Gun knows she's one of the most loved people on this site. When I came here, people said, "oh, everyone loves Gun!" I'm privileged to call her 'friend', and as privileged to learn at her feet. If one looks closely at her images, they'll find gallery-fuls of delicate textures, the most tactile primitives to the most refined, the most complex emotional gestures, images of immense power—emergence, submergence, outwardness, inwardness—exquisite lights; and above all, those colors—her unnamable violets, blues, reds, etc, which tap places so intimate one can't find the words.
(I should add: If you've seen her pre-digital work, you know she did marvelous paintings, drawings & sculptures. Now she's digital...and it's as if she'd done it all her life! Those of us who go batty with Photoshop and a mouse know it's not easy. Gun makes it look like she does it in her sleep...)
Well!
Gun made images for me! Including variations-on-soundwaves from music I'd uploaded. But she also did two gallery posts in my honor, which I've never been able to match. At least now I can say I posted something back...But above all, she's a wonderful friend, and even allows me to call her "sister"—which honors me since her first sister is suzanne, and they really are sisters...She's recognizable by that 'butty' avatar and I'm pretty sure she's inhabited by spirits. Gun, you're the best. Please take this candelabrum as my gift to you. If I could paint the love behind it, this would be a Rembrandt...
My love to you, sis,
Mark

Oh my....Mark, thank you for this gift!! It is really precious to me, but...hmm..your kind words make my face blush. I feel I am not wordy all your great words, even if they at the same time sounds like music in my early morning ears. You choae the right motive for me. Soon the darkness falls over us here up North, and I was just this morning thinking of how it uses to be. I hibernate, like the bears. I think of getting one of those full light lamps. So...after those thoughts I get your gift: Lights to lift the darkness. Thanks dear "brother" Mark. Lots of love back to you!!

Beautiful and symbolic image. You have nothing to feel insufficient about. We all have our own styles and this is lovely. It is also perfect for Gun, as is your heartfelt dedication.

And... it glows with life, the way a host of candles should!! Not only the glow matches Gun's spirit but also the sparkles. Gun sparkles for each of us and the texture you have surrounding the light is perfect to remind us of the textures she brings to life in her own images as well as yours. Well done and just amazing!
