Description

This is a test render originally done as a promo for the (free) t-shirt texture which is available for download in my free stuff. The render had to be large, because the key feature of the texture is that it uses some UV-scaling and offsets to squeeze 3000x4000 pixel texture maps onto the shirt front and back, with a 4000x4000 texture map for the sleeves. By contrast, the shirt trim was done with a 1x4 texture map. The shirt also has a procedural bump map, which is the cause of the moire effects seen here. Eliminating this'd require probably twice as many samples per pixel, quadrupling the render time (it took about 2hrs in Poser 7 Pro in 64-bit mode running on a quad 2.5Ghz G5 PowerMac). However, it's the overall image I'm posting it here for, since it came out rather nicely for a thrown together image. The figure's body is vanilla Victoria 4, while the head is one of the Pretty Base IV head variations ("Sandra", I think) with an expression applied that was designed for the standard face. I find the resulting slightly odd expression to be rather appealing, in a biting-her-lip way. The Pretty Base IV advanced skin MAT was also used as the skin texture. Other than that it was thrown together from tried and tested ingredients - the excellent 'T' t-shirt, my own texture (which I found very trying to test), more Saintfox lighting (used with the figure facing the wrong way, since it looked good) and a pose with a bit of movement in it. All topped off with my current favorite hair and an alternate texture to give it that bleached blonde look. Thrown together scene, long render time, and I think an interesting result. Hopefully others will be able to do something a little more spectacular with the possibilities of UV-scaling if they download the texture from Free Stuff and see how it's done - it's a very simple technique, but also a very powerful one, that's been heavily underused because it only became possible from Poser 5 onwards, and a lot of people have stuck very stubbornly to maintaining backwards compatibility to Poser 4.
