Description

The tail end of a train, captured back on 5/13/06 at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California. The 80-acre site features 200 steam, diesel and electric locomotives, as well as passenger and freight cars, streetcars, and other railway equipment. Rail transportation in the West from the late 1870s through the 1960s is depicted. A zoom view will be to your distinct advantage. OMG, is it hump day again? Tempus fugit! Anyway, have a good one, whatever the consequences.

Wonderful shots of this UP caboose! I was sorry to see them go, replaced by a small box at the end of the last car. It was the end of an era. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

At one time every train had to have one of these. Then in the late seventies as I looked out to the tracks nearby every train had only a lantern on the last car. Trying to understand now what the conductor did passes through passenger car ticket taking to setting of switches by hand at every siding and junction. Railroad lore doesn't mean a heck of a lot in Alaska. (or Afghanistan)

Very nice shots, Harry. They don't put cabooses on running trains anymore, and I miss them. They always "completed" the experience. Nice to see one again. :)
