Description

I found additional photos I made of this crater on an old hard drive that suddenly started working and using Adobe,I redone the panorama.I never was happy with the previous version this is 7 pictures http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1375860&member The Meteor Crater, sometimes known as the Barringer Crater and formerly as the Canyon Diablo crater, is an impact crater, located about 35 miles (55 km) east of Flagstaff, near Winslow in the northern Arizona desert (USA). Its elevation is 1744 m (5,723 ft). The crater is somewhat misnamed, as it was actually excavated by a meteorite, not a meteor. The crater is about 4,000 ft in width, and some 170 m deep (550 ft). It is surrounded by a 45 m (150 ft) high rim of rock, raised above the surrounding plains by the force of the impact. The bottom of the crater is filled with rubble from the impact, to a depth of 210-240 m (700-800 ft) below the crater's center.the circumference is 2.4 miles.if the Washington monument was placed inside the top would be eye level from the rim thanks for viewing and any comments

This looks pretty impressive. When a police man in the gym used to tell me how powerful his pistol was in getting peoples attention I would say, "Oh yeah, I sometimes look to the East and imagine a Chinese RV coming in and hitting your police station at the city hall with a 10 megaton airburst that just kisses the grond and where the building was is a crater a mile deep so that it is like looking down from Denver suddenly on a tower. This is maybe a few hundred kilotons. Very nice natural feature and a reminder we are only playing at times.

This is an amazing image Richard! Amazing panorama! This is such an impressive place. I saw it about 12 years ago during the summer. It makes one realize how small and insignificant we humans are. Thanks for sharing this! Lea
