Description

Yesterday I give you a riddle - what´s the species I show in the macro?!? Now, the second picture and a solution. I be sure it´s a member of the family of Cimbicidae, a sawfly. I think, it´s Cimbex connatus, but I be not sure about that. Look on wikipedia too:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimbicidae I´ve never saw such specimen before. The little blue drop on the backside of the larva is some kind of "defence-weapon" I think. She sprayed the blue fluid on me as I try to pick her up. Best view is in full-size. Thanks for all your comments and ratings. See you later.

Excellent capture and image. I would have spent a very very long time trying to Id this critter in caterpillar guide book, lol. Even now it still seems to be a caterpillar and not a wasp. Thanks for sharing. lee
