Description

New Series of photography about one of the most older park in North America... Park LaSalle, Lachine, Montreal Little bit history... (Robert Cavelier-de-LaSalle) 1643-1687 Born in Normandie (France), Robert Cavelier-de-La Salle arrived in New France in 1667 hoping to become rich. He started by acquiring seigniorial land from the Sulpicians. In time, the property earned the sarcastic moniker of La Chine because of La Salles obsession with finding a passage to China. The trading post La Salle established on his property became known as Fort Rémy (Lachine). In 1669, La Salle sold his land to finance an expedition. He was killed by the members of his crew in 1687 in what is now known as Texas. Lachine is filled with enchanting possibilities! Between the St. Lawrence River and Lac Saint-Louis lies a borough filled with history and exciting activities. Enjoy one of our four itineraries: Heritage, Culture, Outdoors and Water Sports. In close proximity to the Canal and Lac Saint-Louis, you will find several delightful eateries that are sure to make your mouth water as you enjoy the beautiful river landscapes and park of Lachine. Amidst the bicycle and pedestrian pathways between Lac Saint-Louis and the Lachine Canal, discover over 70 different species of trees. Each tree bears a plaque identifying its species and the name of its donor. Lac Saint-Louis Game Hunting and Fishing Club Discover Lac Saint-Louis through the eyes of an angler or game hunter. Over 34 species of fish and 30 species of birds have chosen the lake as their natural habitat. Learn about fishing and wildlife conservation or simply enjoy the spectacular view from the clubs outdoor terrace while you quench your thirst. Fur Trade at Lachine Museum A Fascinating Return to the Past Just west of downtown Montreal, the Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site welcomes you to its enchanting setting on the shores of Lac Saint-Louis. Built in 1803, this old stone hangar stands today as the sole remaining testimony to the golden age of the Montreal area fur trade in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Stroll among the fur bales, bins filled with goods and barrels of provisions, breathe in the smell of pelts and let our warehouse take you back in time for a memorable expedition. At the Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site, warm and friendly guides have prepared a series of interactive activities that guests can enjoy while visiting at their own pace or taking a guided tour of our facilities. Several of our exhibits also include audio-visual presentations and interactive games. During the summer, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons the site presents historical animations describing the fabrication process of beaver hats, maneuvering bark canoes and the Voyageurs distinctive garb. Lachine Racing Canoe Club On the shores of Lac Saint-Louis, at the entrance of the bay, the club offers lessons to adults and children over the age of 8. On a sunny day, get a one-hour or day membership and rent a canoe or a kayak for an enjoyable experience. Sailing School Longing to be on the water? Rent a pedal boat, a sailboard or even a sail boat, if you are a connoisseur, and sail away! Register your children to our day camps or get technical tips to sail a centerboarder or a catamaran. If you prefer to stay on land, stand on the shore and watch our colourful regatta. Regardless of your choice, you will have a great day!
