Description

Last night as I was putting my image up, the winds began to howl and the windows rattled, the electricity in the house began flickering just as I finished my upload so I had to shut down my pc as we lose power here easily. When I awoke 6:30 am this was the scene across the street from me...Where I live in Onondaga County: 10,868 were without power. Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me, that so much damage occurred in Texas and yet there was enough left over energy to reach us here and cause damage throughout seven counties...Below is a snippet of what the weather report was. Around 3:00 AM, 9-15-08, a cold front swiped through central New York with strong, damaging winds. A combination of this cold front and energy from the leftovers of "Ike" provided for widespread 40-50 MPH with winds. Gusts to 59 MPH occurred, before this front went through it was 82°, temperatures stayed in the lower to middle 60°s the rest of the day with mostly cloudy skies and scattered rain..Most Central New Yorkers said the highest winds swept through the area between 2 AM and 3 AM. The winds were the remnants of Hurricane Ike as it swept up into Canada. Thanks for looking and for previous comments!

At least the roofs appear to still be intact. Mother Nature is certainly a force to be reckoned with at times... Glad you're okay! We were very fortunate to have avoided this one as there was enough flooding in this area from Tropical Storm Fay. On a bright note, I finally have lush green grass in my yard for the first time in many drought-ridden years. :-)

Amazing colours! The trees will grow again, I've lost over half of one of the magnolias, and we didn't have Ike! Just glad you are safe!

Galveston will never be the same, but people that build there knows the inherent danger of living there.I hate to see people lose their homes, but also I do not feel all that sorry for them. the same thing repeats it's self all along the gulf coast and the Atlantic, then people elsewhere pays the price in higher insurance premiums. I expect when my insurance renews they will try and raise the price and I have never made a claim in the 23 years I have been in the same house glad you are safe and did not have damage to your residence

Nice documentary, Lynn. Seems IKE was a little hard on the trees and the power-cables. Thank God he did not rip the roofs of the houses.+5
