The Great Gig in the Sky - For Richard by TwoPynts

"And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime." "If you can hear this whispering you are dying." "I never said I was frightened of dying." from "The Great Gig in the Sky" by Richard Wright (1943-2008)
Some have you probably heard the sad news already. On Monday, Richard Wright passed away from a longtime battle with cancer. He was one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, writing such hits as "The Great Gig in the Sky" and "Us and Them" and worked on the group's epic compositions such as "Atom Heart Mother," "Echoes" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." Richard's keyboard work always blew me away, transporting me to other realms. His last appearance with Pink Floyd was when they reunited to perform at the "Live 8" charity concert in London -- the first time in 25 years they had ALL been onstage together. I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd in concert during the Division Bell tour. I had nosebleed seats, but I'll never forget what a show they put on, and how great the music was. The music of Pink Floyd made a big impact on me and I can't help but feel a little sad to hear of death of another member of that once great group. See you on the Dark Side of the Moon Richard... -----

David Gilmour said: "In my view, all the greatest Pink Floyd moments are the ones where he is in full flow. No-one can replace Richard Wright - he was my musical partner and my friend."[6] He added: "In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound. Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously. I have never played with anyone quite like him."(Source The CD "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was realised thanks to RICHARD WRIGHT' prestations so without him this albun couldn't have realised Golden China was his last solo CD(1996) "I wish you were here" I wish you were here: So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk on part in the war, For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found The same old fears. Wish you were here. Pink Floyd A big loss :(

Wonderful tribute, Kort! I too, was a huge Floyd fan. I saw almost every concert they did in Southern California, including The Wall (my all time favorite concert)! It's always sad when you hear of these legends we grew up with passing and just shows how short our time is here on Earth.

Right with you on your Pink Floyd comments. Their music will live on forever, much as has the classical music of the great masters. Perfect photograph to match your words.

Wonderful shot and great dedication. Unfortunately I never saw them live, but I've always adored their music. Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun...
