Description

I met an amazing little creature today, something completely new to me. Much smaller than a honeybee and not segmented like a bee, he had a long forked "beak" and that drop of fluid just 'grew' from the base of the "fork". He had flown to another perch, and the drop of fluid was gone, then I watched as it was magically emitted once again, the fork shape holding it in place. What the purpose of this is or what the name of this insect is, I have no idea. Perhaps Leeco will know. Thanks very much for your views and comments.

I can to you say which that am. It`s a bombyliidae! To get with difficulty! I succeeded only once and then was not very good the photo, because the small insect equivalent again away was! Your photo is so good that the word are missing to me! Wonderfully!!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombyliidae

Maybe it caught a cold? - Seriously, it's a great image! And isn't it wonderful to see something new? Ah, the "little" nature around is a real wonder ...

It must be a white man Maria, in the cowboy films the Indians always say the white man speak with forked tongue. Lol. I was amazed to come across a forked proboscis a few weeks back, it was the peppered moth that I found that alerted me to the exsitence of it. Lee posted a moth with two proboscis and now this another forked one. I didn't realise there were that many genre of moths and flys until I joined RR. I hope you manage to get full ID for this beauty, it looks like an unusual specimen, and maybe the bubble blowing will help with the id of it. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!
