Description

Last weekend I went out to my friend Marsha's to play some pinochle. It was a nice day, so we started our game outside at a table under the gazebo. Dennis, my pinochle partner, had just dealt a hand and somebody was hassling me about being slow to bid. I griped back at them that I was thinking, and then all of a sudden Marsha said, "Look at the balloon!" I just looked at her and said, "are you trying to distract me from my bid?" She was practically jumping up and down. "No! Really! Look behind you!" I looked, dropped my cards (face down, of course), and ran in the house for my camera. There were two balloons, but one of them got away before I could get a good photograph. Shot hand-held, and as zoomed in as my little camera will go. .......... For those of you who know pinochle: We play single deck. There were four hands where I took the bid and shot the moon, and two of those we didn't even play out ... I just lay down my hand. Boy, does THAT feel good! I had one hand where I was dealt a double pinochle. Dennis and I won four games out of seven. * sigh * It was a good night. :)

"Look at the balloon, she said...someone get me a pin!" Or, in this instance, a big nail. Superlative capture of the colorful aerial conveyance, as it drifts placidly over the fruited plain.
