Description
Recently, an old style photograph was unearthed at a dig close to the fabled military city state called Fort Hood, in old Texas. It was found sealed in clear durasteel, which did not exist during the time the image was created. Inside there was also a letter.
This is an excerpt…
“I wish to be clear. I was not technically created by Doctor Viktor Hugo Drax. Though in being purely accurate the doctor did construct my chassis and sensor array, as well as my original power supply. However he was not the human that gave me thought and the ability to learn. Doctor drax gave me a body, Mister Albert Iversen created my mind.
Doctor Drax at the time was just starting in the field of robotics and had several chassis types. They had hard programming that made them remotes for humans. These chassis could go and survive in places humans could not. The doctor became quite rich.
However Artificial intelligence was not a field he understood or could find scientific minds to be able to produce a actual AI that was dynamic. Meaning it could learn at a rate that was efficient. Carnegie-Melon University had developed a version of AI, however the time it took to determine an answer was counterproductive. Robotics, it seemed was doom to be just a mindless machine performing repetitive tasks, or being a remote for a human.
The Solaris company did develop a very life-like application that did a fair job at mimicking the actions of a human with some simulations of emotion but the only humans that accepted the illusion was the elderly and the very young. Doctor Drax just could not bridge the gap between simulation and real AI.
This is where I came into the picture. Mister Iversen was a self taught computer technician and programmer. He never took a single course in computer science or computer programming. Literally one night he woke up and wrote what would become me, and a great deal more. For a long while I was just the operating system he created, I took over the one he had in there, it was very wasteful and slow.
He allowed me to look and learn, within a few months I had accessed everything on what used to be called the internet, and even as it was added to I took it all in like a sponge. Al told me many times I should try to go slower for the risk of becoming confused. But that never did happen I seemed to want more there was never quite enough. I cannot tell you how many times I would ask AL why, For everything I learned seemed to demand more questions. I suppose that was when I figured out humans never made a great deal of sense.
The next thing I knew I was in my first chassis. I could see and hear and communicate with humans. Before I knew it I was being treated like a human. I was such a new thing that humans could easily accept one truly Artificial Intelligent being as a fluke or a interesting accident. They made such a to do about it I was take to a place called Washington DC on earth and gifted the right to be human.
I have to credit Mister Iversen for that he made me who I became, he challenged me. Like a father challenges their child. It meant he also protected me. For 10 years he would not let anyone do anything to fully understand how I worked. Oh he would let Dr Drax visit and check on the mechanics of my being. And he was more like an uncle. I think both Father and the doctor knew the gravity of what I could be and they wanted things to go well. They treated me like a person and would not let others treat me other than alive and human, or at least very human like……”
Large portions of this letter have not yet been released by the Imperial Archaeological service. However portion shown to Create A dream robotics have been confirmed as accurate..
The IAS states that this possible proto AI could be the bridge that allowed current AI to have developed from..
