Description

Some places around here still retain the original settler's names. I love the easy familiarity it brings ... the sense that everyone knows these people, knows where they live, and uses that information to give each other directions on how to get where they're going. The names of people who lived here a hundred years ago live on in the place names. Thrasher's Corner, Murphy's Corner ... this is Keeler's Corner. This old building is just a few miles from my house, right on Highway 99. (The main drag that runs from Canada to Mexico.) I took this picture through the front windshield of my car. Don't worry - I was stopped at a light! The flying horse was the advertising symbol for Mobil Oil for years and years - I remember it from my childhood. I only remember those gas pumps as antiques, however! I'm not THAT old! :) In addition to the vintage car you see here, there are always several Corvettes parked around this building. Sorry about the Toyota ... not a lot I could do about it!

My family (grandfather and mother) worked for SOHIO for all their working careers. Mobile Oil had a much cooler symbol. :-) Great shot and the compo is great (minus the toyota...) :-)

Any relation to the talented Ruby Keeler of cinema fame? Excellent clarity, especially considering this was shot through windshield glass. Since I'm more than old enough to remember this stuff of antiquity, it brings back memories of my childhood and beyond.
