Description
LOVE ACROSS THE SKY
He flung his love for her
Across the sky,
Written in letters
A hundred feet tall.
Anyone could see
He was enchanted.
She told me
It was a joy
To see how happy he was,
How he soared and sailed
How he bloomed and grew
Bouyed by her love.
During hours and hours
(and hours)
Of conversation,
They talked about everything
From lawn care and dishes
To childhood trauma
To marriage and forever.
She was amazed, she said,
That no subject was taboo,
No topic too painful to broach.
Everything was fair game
And open for discussion,
Every conversation a healing.
He wrote his love for her
Across her heart
In letters micrometers tall
That only she could feel.
There were days I thought
I could see them
Reflected in her face,
Her joy shining through.
She said those words
Were the things he saw in her.
Confidence, intelligence,
Humor, creativity,
Passion, honesty ...
She smiled and said
She couldn't remember
All the things he loved about her.
The list was far too long.
The words on her heart were true,
And I could see
How she bloomed and grew,
Soared and sailed,
Buoyed by his love.
They worked through issues,
Obstacles, fears, and tears.
One by one,
Barriers to happiness
Collapsed before their love.
Only time would tell,
But it looked like they had it made.
I'm sorry to tell you
It all fell apart.
I got a phone call.
She was in tears.
Something new
Had come to light.
A deal breaker,
And it was over.
Since she is my friend
And I barely knew him,
I can only tell you this:
All those things
He wrote on her heart
Were already a part of her.
She didn't need him
To tell her who she was.
She's one of the most
Amazing women I know,
And she's doing fine.
I won't lie to you.
There were days
When all I could do
Was hold her while she cried.
But more and more these days,
We talk about other things,
Other interests.
She rarely mentions him now.
There are times, though,
When the wind blows
From a certain direction,
And I can see the remnants
Of their love
In tatters across the clouds.

I wrote this poem for a friend, and she said it was okay to post it, but not to tell you her name. It's okay - none of you know her anyway. Here's the lesson for all you men ... somewhere out there is a woman who knows ALL the details of your relationship!

Poignancy at its most profound, but at this stage of life, I don't relate to this situation at all, and probably never will.

What a moving poem. I feel like I am invading someone's private space where I don't belong. This is powerful. I'm glad your friend is moving on with her life and healing.

This just takes my breath away...every bit of it....and some of it's way too familiar. It's never easy getting over love gone wrong.

I can relate to this Tara, Pauline and I are both from broken marriages but have been together now for 22 years. On reading this I can see ellements of it for both of us, the second from last verse and the line she rarely mentions him now, applies to both of us. Superb prose, very powerful words, starts happy, gets sad, ends up OK, more than OK really. These things happen more and more in this 'Modern' society, it is nice to hear that she is getting on with her life now. There are still lots of B*****ds out there Tara, but there are still a few gentlemen about. I do not profess to be either, I let others decide that. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
