Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

I can't help with the reason or the votes sweety because I have already voted and they won't let me vote twice. It does seem odd to have two fences, the other one looks more sturdy and a better deterent than this wooden one. I guess there is a reason, but I don't know it, I find it rather strange and a waste of money. It does make for an interesting photo though. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

Fantastic work!

The wood fence is a windbreak to prevent sand from being blown away. Sometimes they are not placed right. If working as planned, a small accumulation piles up behind the fence ("dropouts," so to speak, where the wind velocity slows). Good pic.

it makes a really strong image

I just put my vote in!!! Great shot Marilyn, very unusual to have two fences! but now it makes sense that it is a windbreak. You can see that the growth of hardy plant life has a bit of green to it on the inside of the wooden fence and the same plants are suffering on the outside!

I think the wooden one is a sand barrier and the other is a people barrier; I love these beach fences!

The German ribbon and razorwire is coming. It has to look hostile to protect anything.

This is my favorite of the shots you took that day. Love what you've done with it!

Fantastic shot !

Terrific ambiance and perspective in this shot, Marilyn, but I dare say even Tom Sawyer would refuse to whitewash this fence! It's in dire need of restoration, but with its present budget catastrophe, California can't afford it.

I'm sure I can jump over the fence on the right... But I'll need a step-ladder for the one on the left...lol Aloha

If you find out why there are 2 fences be sure to let us know
