Description

Close-up of a broken shell located close to the shore line of Pensacola Beach, Florida, taken shortly after sunrise last Sunday morning. The macro shot can be deceiving; it's actually a piece of a very tiny shell. Note the grain of sand logged in between two of the ridges just right of center. Also, after looking at some of our other macro sand & shell shots I was reminded that shells in their entirety can get down to the size of a single grain of sand. Once high tide retreats, you can often see scattered about in sections of the sand shell fragments the waves left behind. Upon closer inspection you'll discover that mixed in with what seems to be just a shell fragment gumbo are actually millions of extremely tiny complete shells. They give the sand that "crunchy" sound when you step on them. Of course, they go mostly overlooked. Instead shell seekers go for the larger complete ones, which I too have done for as long as I can remember. But there's an overlooked beautiful world right next to them that for the most part goes completely unnoticed. But such is life, eh? Full size viewing on this one does make a difference. This is my 2nd post from our sunrise visit to Pensacola Beach last weekend. The first post, "Sunrise Fishing" can be viewed by clicking here. Thanks for stopping by. . . . marshall
