The Merced River is always cold if you wade or swim in it. As a boy I learned about the pervasiveness of river currents trying to build a tiny coffer dam of small stones on this rivers edge. How do those beavers do it? As soon as it began to block the flow the stones got swept off the top.

I went down this river in May and it sure looked different-wild, fast and cold. But it always has its own special beauty, no matter when; it's magic place.
