Description

First, about the insignia for those who may not be aware of its history: The blue swastika on white circle was the national insignia of Finnish airforce between 1918 - 1944. It originates back to the Finland's civil war in 1918 when a Swedish count Eric von Rosen had painted the symbol on the wings of the plane he flew to Finland to be donated to the "White army" (legal government's troops). This plane was virtually the beginning of the Finnish Airforce and the symbol used by count von Rosen was adopted to a national insignia. It was never in any way related to the Nazism and the insignia was changed to the current white & blue roundel after the so called Continuation war. That's about it. Now, about the pic: This is actually a couple of years old and this kind of images were my "addiction" before I got sucked into the 3D world :) The planes are screenshots from a flight simulator combined with a photo I took and heavily edited to smoothen the edges and to add highlights and shadows. I recommend to view the full pic. And thank you for reading this far ;) EDIT: Forgot to add that the image depicts a duel between Finnish and Soviet aces somewhere above Karelian Isthmus in Summer 1944.

Wow, well, great amazing screenshots and very interesting story about the blue swastika. It's funny how branding does just exactly that, burns an image in, to see a logo changed like that really sticks out.

I knew that the nazis weren't the first people to use the swastika, but I didn't know Finland also used it for a time. Nice picture.
