Description
A dedication to the pilots of Finnish Airforce's HLeLv 28 (Fighter squadron 28) and especially to its 1st Flight, which had to fly with outdated Morane-Saulnier 406 fighters against the Soviet La-5's, Yak-9's and Airacobras until July / August 1944 suffering heavy casualties. Still they gained some success against their superior opponents.
MS-406 was used as a first line fighter all the way to 1944 although it was clearly outdated already in 1941-42. During the summer '44 (after the Red Army's major offensive had begun on the Karelian Isthmus on June 10th), 2nd and 3rd Flights of HLeLv 28 received HLeLv 24's old Messerschmitts but the 1st Flight had to keep flying with Moranes. In few months it had lost 12 of its 16 pilots and 22 planes of which 16 completely destroyed (out of the official strength of 8-10 planes).
Finally, at the end of July and in August 1944 the flight began to slowly receive the new "Mörkö"-Moranes, Morane-Saulniers with heavier armament (7.5 mm guns replaced with 12.7 mm ones) and more powerful engine (Russian M-105) giving the pilots better chances to strike and to survive.
This is another pic made using flight simulator screenshots & photo background. It's the last one of its kind I've made and it's about a year old.

Love the action here. Also thanks for your historical notes. These are aircraft and markings not often seen in this medium. Bill

Very cool capture and well done for thinking of a novel way of getting unusual aircraft into an image.
