Description

This old city like others with "chester" in the name or in this case only Chester, were fortified at one time. I think the word derivation is from the Latin of the Romans but am not certain about that. Anyway, many cities have old walls showing more or less the original location of the much older city. Chester is one of these cities and the wall may be entered from gates and walked around the old city center. This walk revealed much of common life around the city and much chewing gum on certain chosen steps. : ) The picture was taken around 9 AM.

Gorgeous. I know people from Chester, but have not been there myself. It's great to get a glimpse of what I might be missing. Fantastic, moody, misty color here, as well as a wonderful hint of damp, chilly, moody air.

Nice shot... "if the walls could talk" so much history. Sorry about the chewing gum!

Those are some really big stones that make that up. Nicely weathered and the composition is great. Love the zig and zag.

You are right. Chester comes from the Latin term "castrum" meaning "military encampment". BTW the wall are great!

Fascinating place and history involved and your capture of mist makes it that much more sinister.

I've been looking at your UK postings with interest - you have captured the mood here beautifully. London's Roman city wall is not so well preserved as this medieval one but it is there appearing in gaps between buildings etc .
