Description

I got up very early, rode my bike down to the beach so I could see the sunrise and take some fotos. It was one of those crystal clear days, chilly, but not too cold. I got there in plenty of time, walked out to the end of the pier---and my batteries died. No, I did NOT have spares and nothing was open. So, I did what any normal person would do, I got the biggest coffee I could find, sat down on the beach and just took pictures in my mind. The next day, I did it again. This time it worked and this gull rewarded me. Just being there was reward enough, but he made my day!!

I always carry at least one set of replacement batteries Marilyn, its got to be second nature now, that I grab a set and put them in my pocket. If I am going out with Alan I have five spare sets with me, one in the camera and one in the external flash. Each battery is numbered so that I don't get my sets mixed up. I hope you have learned from this mistake, #;0) Excellent capture, fantastic lighting, I guess having flat batteries paid of really, because if they had have been power in them you might not have gone back to the same place the next day, and then you would have missed this great capture. I have never seen a Golden Gull before. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

I always thrill to the sight of a solitary gull, looking out to sea. There is something haunting in the image. This is a great shot and it seems, pretty stress-free. :-) Next time, make that 2 coffees and I'll join you.

Such a magnificent portrait I do not have adequate words to describe it. And, going without spare batteries is like going around the world in 80 days with only the clothes on your back.
