Description

Thought I would share my profession with all of you. This is a photo capture of the instrument where I am organist...in the Reading, PA area. Quite a drive for me a couple of times per week but well worth the salary $$$$$. The largest pipes are over 18 feet in height and about 16 inches in diameter. Behind the pipes which you see are approximately 2,000 more ranging in height from about a few inches (the size of a well-worn pencil) to 9 feet. For those of you who are afficionados, it is a Wicks instrument consisting of 21 straight ranks on 2 manuals (keyboards) and 32 note Pedalboard and was installed in the very modern looking church in 1979. At present day instrument construction costs, it is worth over $650,000. Pitch range is from 32' up to a IV rank Mixture and there is a very powerful Trompette 8' on the Great (lower) manual. The photo (taken with a Nikon S52 digital camera) was integrated with PhotoScape 3.2 which included the frame, lens flares and linen-look background. Thanks for viewing and any comments.

Impressive, Keith! Must take quite a lot of skill to master that instrument. Even Sherlock Holmes only had a "Two-pipe problem".

Wow, I knew what you did, but seeing these pipes is so impressive; I've heard the sound and it's simply incredible. There's a new pipe organ not far from me and next time there's a concert, I'll be there. Wonderful shot!!

Very nice shot, Keith! In my previous life, my father and I had a small organ building company here in Sweden - we even built two very small organs in USA :)

Bloody hell, Keith. Just as well you don't have to take this monster to gigs! I once saw Ememerson Lake and Palmer in Amsterdam Concert Hall circa 1972 and Keith Emmerson played 'Pictures at an Exhibition' ona beast like this. Really knocked me out. All credit to you for mastering such a fine and complex instrument. And I like the treatment you gave it (you just cant resit using those lens flares though can you??) Dave

Fascinating shot, Keith. Cool to see this.. i remember your profession from earlier on. Great info on the technical part. A fantastic organ for sure. It is fascinating to experience an organist play.. Because of the volume of the pipes.. but also because you use both hands and both feet at the same time.. That takes some practice for sure. Great post.

WOW. So you're an organist among other artistic things! Great! I love this image. I know absolutely nothing about music, except for the fact that I like it, and your image and text accompaniment is top notch in my book. Cool stuff, great image!
