Description
One thing that surprised me most about the Grand Canyon, and the desert southwest in general, was the abundance of color found in the geographic sculptures. Fluorescent reds, oranges, yellows and even purples permeate the rocks, ridges and plateaus of the region. A splash of green from desert vegetation coupled with some blue sky and a white cloud or two completes the spectacular display. Such a sight!
This photograph almost has too much going on in it. There appears to be nine or maybe ten layers of ridges here, and the colors you see are real. Some contrast and brightness adjustments to help fight the haze from the afternoon (and the shortcommings of the camera), but no color alteration. This depicts as it looked.
I've spent some beautiful autumn afternoons before on the northern shore of Lake Superior, and often in the Ozark and Smokey Mountains. But those places, as beautiful as they are, would be hard pressed to rival the colorful terrain on year-round display in the desert southwest.
3rd in a series on the Grand Canyon.
Thanks for stopping by!

I've never been there ... they say it has to be seen to be believed. This is just gorgeous! I can't imagine how it must look in person.
