Description

This is somewhere a few miles off Interstate 40 deep in the Arizona desert. There wasn't a whole lot around, which is why we decided to take an exit that seemed to be built void of any detectable reason, or at least in the immediate vicinity. So I was curious as to what all this emptiness was all about. Of course, as is with everywhere, there was much to be found. We even encountered an old abandoned ghost town named "Two Guns". And this. No idea what it once was, but the barren, desolate feel to the place was moving. Once upon a time there must have been an abundance of hopes and dreams encompassed around what has now deteriorated to forgotten, abandoned ruins. Whether their dreams were ever realized or not I do not know, but I'm sure they were searching for something all those years. Life had to be hard. I hope they found it. Before enlightenment, chop wood/carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood/carry water. Same as it ever was. . . . . marshall

I'm so glad you were curious and got off the highway to see what was there! What a wonderful find. I love it that you shot this from such a distance ... it gives a feeling of total isolation. Beautifully done!

As I recall, Two Guns is in the high desert. I made a couple trips to see family outside of Flagg. and remember a sign or two. I know about these ruins that crop up in the desert, though. Besides the occassional cement block house that is gutted and left to fall, there are the older places - historic to some - that you come on. There is such a place I have camped at in the high desert closer to Wickenburg where there is part of an old Wells Fargo stage office. Much as been shot full of bullet holes, kicked and picked apart and the snakes and scorpions just love the shade it provides and the cactus it cuddles. Fascinating stuff. I love this lone view.

I lived in Phoenix for a long time, before it got so huge and the desert was our playground. We'd ride out bikes not very far and were right in the middle of it and would find the most amazing things. I love this shot!!
