Description

This is looking back towards Albuquerque, New Mexico, shot from the Sandia Tramway located northeast of Albuquerque. If you're ever in the area make a visit there a must. It's the world's longest aerial tramway and scary as hell too! As you take the 2.7 mile ride you'll get a feeling of certain death as you soar high above incredibly deep canyons and extremely rough, although breathtaking terrain. The observation deck atop Sandia Peak is 10,378 feet above sea level, and is located in the Cibola National Forest. From that vantage point one can view over 11,000 square miles. A pleasant time is guaranteed for all! marshall

I am totally taken with this. I have been on this tram and, although I did not experience the scare you mention, I do have memories of romance, exuberance, adventure and awe as we went from a clear view into a dense bank of fog near the top. We walked out on the observation platform to the most marvelous view and followed the deck walkway through snow to the restaurant where a Baileys coffee was the order for the day. :-) I am so happy you posted this as it brings back a very magical time for me.

The scare I refer to was the height of the tramway and the rugged rocks underneath it. In my mind I was imagining the fall! I suppose a normal person would simply avoid the thought!

Very clear capture - the vista and vertigo that you allude too, I can easily imagine. Thank you for sharing, enjoyed taking the time to look over all that is shown.

I always remind myself that the trip has been successful thousands of times in the past, and I have nothing to worry about. Then I enjoy the ride! This looks like a beautiful place to have those thoughts. :)

Awesome shot! See that itty bitty house at the bottom of the mountain on the left? That's where I used to live before I moved to Phoenix. Thanks for the memory. I went to the Balloon Fiesta last Saturday and wouldn't you know, they didn't launch because of the bad weather. :o(
