Description

The previous "Plunked Out", this one, as well as some more were captured for a project of traditional Don-area windows for one of my commercial projects which was never realized. A typical Cossack house was always built by a river and thus flooded almost twice a year. Hence the living premises were lifted over the ground level with the basement used for storage. Thank you for your interest of the "Plunked Out". Nikolay

this has more grays in it than the last shot, and therefore it's softer. Still, you have wonderful contrasts between wooden walls & plaster walls, a nice messy roof with all its visual 'jazz' going on (I played jazz many years, so that's a compliment), and the contrast of the white trim and ornament. Another intriguing piece of visual music from you, and the curtain gives a nice sense of the humans who live inside who, still, are no more important than all the life around them. A fine photographer sees worlds in a patch of life: If most of us were to pass this patch, we'd see a house, no more. You bring us into the inner life of everything we miss.

The details in this are wonderful! It's just as interesting to read the information you've added to accompany this image. The fact that it's in black and white gives such a level of emotional intensity to it, and the mood that I'm left with is somewhat haunting. This image is utterly fantastic.

I love shots of windows and doors. There was a restaurant we used frequent some time ago that had gigantic pictures of windows from all over on their walls. One can sit and stare at these windows, wondering what goes on behind them, who lives there, what their lives are like ... This is wonderful, made more so by the information you wrote to go with it.
