This is a superb image, Nikolay, but I need to know more about it. And have you removed some background fuss? If so you have done it beautifully!

Nikolay, I don't know if you know the Late Quartets by Beethoven, but he wrote them in his final years, and they're ethereal and filled with other-worldly love. The thing is, he did all that with 4 little stringed instruments, no orchestra, no 'fireworks'. He understood that, with the simplest of means, he could coax great color and heart out of his music. I now realize, with this picture, that you work with grays the way Beethoven did with solo strings. You coax a world out of them, filled with heart, lots of music between light & dark, and all kinds of subtle and dramatic expression. This is a simple shot, yet quite moving; and the grays are just gorgeous, capturing not only an almost bleak inwardness in these people, but also the richness that must dwell in their hearts as they mill around like small mountains. You've caught some kind of diagonals too, very lightly, which look like a fountain or rain interfering with their silence...and the composition of people & light is perfect for the mix of melancholy and strength in this photo. It's got so many qualities you put into photography, and it's why you're simply one of the best we have. It's beautiful. A fav.

WOW! How moving in so simple and humane a way. There are rich and textured commentaries in this single image and you've presented it with such dignity, as demanded by the expressions on the faces of the two women. Fantastic and touching work!

Amazing and very powerful work Nikolay! I remember the state of the churches in Russia before. To me this is a testament of those whose faith kept them strong in the worst of times...very beautiful, a bit sad but it holds promise too I think...

A wonderful image Nikolay. I am not sure if 'wonderful' is the right word, because it brings back some not so pleasant memories. But 'thank you' for showing it, it acts as a great equalizer to all the other images!

An image that is difficult to comment on. There is great beauty, great dignity, and great sorrow here. To my eyes, the only feeling of hope comes from the dog. They are among the last beings to give up hope.
