Don Excerpts from the diary of: Agatha Rose Hathaway 1846 - 1924 March 3rd, 1920 8pm The smell of spring is in the air early this year as I made my way back to our spot by the water. I have been anxious for the winters cold to receed so that I may return. This has been a most difficult winter for me dear John, as I couldn't seem to get warm no matter how many blankets I put over me. I intended to make the trip yesterday but that silly old car just wouldn't start. Albert, you remeber Albert from the garage, came and picked it up. He said it had been sitting to long and needed to be warmed up, and I thought, just like I had needed this winter. He brought the car back late in the afternoon causing me to delay the trip until today. I heard they intended to tear down and replace the old covered bridge that we are so fond of. I was a bit angered when I heard about it. It appears that the town of Bailey needs the bridge to be bigger to accomodate more visitors and business to the town. They are putting the new bridge just a ways down river and will take the old one down when the new one is completed. Remember the time we stopped by the bridge, and as we walked under it, you took me in your arms and kissed me? The kids saw us and laughed so hard at the idea of you and I kissing. I felt like a school girl again that day my John, oh how I miss you. I think this will be my last trip to Bailey because it just wouldn't be the same without our old covered bridge. It has been a another wonderful day of memories for me walking by the water. Wasn't it just yesterday that we were there together? Laughing, dreaming, planning. We had decided how many children we would have and what our house would be like too. Now that I look back this may have been a place of magic for you and I. Everything we dreampt and talked about there seemed to come to pass. How odd that I could be in a magical place as that and not have any new wishes and dreams . The evening has come and I'm getting cold. I'm thinking more and more about when we will be together again. Goodnight my love. ARH
